Nature is all around us. Join this workshop to learn how to capture beautiful photographs of butterflies and moths. Judy Gallagher, board member and co-author of Butterflies of Northern Virginia, will share her stunning insect photography and offer participants tips and tricks about photographing Lepidoptera for identification or as art. She will discuss the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO, photo composition, lighting, backgrounds and more. Judy will also suggest ideas for where participants can go to find butterflies and moths to photograph and review some dos and don’ts for getting the best images. She will also touch on equipment and go over some considerations for those thinking about buying new gear.

Judy Gallagher has been an Audubon member for more than 25 years. She loves birding, but is most passionate about documenting insects and spiders and their behavior and environment through macro photography. Judy is a Certified Master Naturalist and a charter member of the Prince William Wildflower Society. She has a Certificate in Natural History Field Studies from Audubon Naturalist Society. She joined ASNV's Natural Resources Survey when she retired five years ago and spends most of her free time roaming natural spaces in northern Virginia looking for bugs. She also participates in several Christmas Bird Counts.
