Join Judy Gallagher for a workshop to celebrate National Moth Week, July 22-30. Did you know that many adult moths eat nectar but others don't eat at all as adults? Join us to learn about the mysterious world of moths and how to identify some you can see in northern Virginia.

National Moth Week (NMW) celebrates the beauty, life cycles, and habitats of moths. “Moth-ers” of all ages and abilities are encouraged to learn about, observe, and document moths in their backyards, parks, and neighborhoods. NMW is a worldwide event, offering everyone, everywhere a unique opportunity to become a citizen scientist and contribute scientific data about moths. Through partnerships with major online biological data depositories, NMW participants around the world can help map moth distribution and provide needed information on other aspects of their life history.

Judy Gallagher is on the board of directors for Audubon Society of Northern Virginia and has been an Audubon member for more than 25 years. She loves birding, but is most passionate about documenting insects and spiders and their behavior and environment through macro photography. Check out Judy's photos here.

Judy is a Certified Master Naturalist and a charter member of the Prince William Wildflower Society. She has a Certificate in Natural History Field Studies from Audubon Naturalist Society. She joined ASNV's Natural Resources Survey when she retired five years ago and spends most of her free time roaming natural spaces in Northern Virginia looking for bugs. She also participates in several Christmas Bird Counts.
