Worth a Visit

Have you visited the national Audubon's website lately? The URL is www.audubon.org, and it is definitely worth a few minutes of your time to browse through the site's many offerings.   Particularly relevant at this time of year is the "Take Action" page. From here you can easily check on the voting records of your state and national lawmakers on issues the environmental concern. You might want to read this before you go to the polls next month. You can also use this page to contact lawmakers and make your position known on environmental issues that are due to be considered in the near future. With just a few mouse clicks you can send off a message drafted by Audubon or edit it to reflect your personal opinion precisely.  

Another relevant section you might want to check is the "Audubon at Home" page, which reflects many of the very concerns that occupy The Audubon Society of Northern Virginia at the present moment. From this page you can navigate to find extensive tips on how to create a healthy backyard that will attract birds and other forms of wildlife. You can find a great deal of information on feeding birds, from selecting the right feeders and seed to dealing with the inevitable squirrels. And if you want to be begin some in-depth research, the "Explore Your Backyard" page provides you with basic information, resources, and a worksheet to help you determine your "ecological address," the unique combination of water systems, geological formations, climate zones, and land use that defines the location at which you live.
