During the pandemic birding has taken off as a new hobby, especially with a younger crowd as a safe way to get some fresh air and exercise while looking at beautiful flying creatures. It appeals to extroverts and introverts alike. Birding is for everyone and there are many ways to “go birding.”

Join us for an introduction to birding and learn the basics to get you started: Simple bird anatomy, tips for identifying unfamiliar birds, how birds benefit the environment, and how birdwatchers can help birds. Learn about the best places to bird, useful and affordable gear, cool apps, ways you can find others to bird with or find places to bird alone, and what birds you can expect to see during prime migration season.

Tina Dudley is the Program Manager for Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, a beginner birder herself, Certified Master Naturalist with Arlington Master Naturalists (ARMN) and author of the blog Animal Intrigue. She is excited to make birding accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Larry Meade is President of the Northern Virginia Bird Club. He serves as a sector leader for several Christmas Bird Counts and is an avid nature photographer. He is a frequent field trip leader for various local groups.
